Background
The Marin County HEAL Collaborative’s goal is to advance our shared priority of advancing work that supports community empowerment (control over decision-making processes, self-determination, community leadership, etc.) within the local food system and promotes leadership from low-income Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. We strive to be as inclusive as possible in our structure and decision-making agreements to make space for many perspectives and organizational capacities, particularly those representing historically marginalized communities. While we work to address equitable food access across the County, we prioritize our work in the geographics of: (1) San Rafael’s Canal neighborhood, (2) Marin City, and (3) West Marin (encompassing San Geronimo Valley and all rural/coastal communities from Muir Beach up to Dillon Beach)
The Steering Committee’s purpose is to set priorities and guide overall strategy for the full HEAL Collaborative. Steering Committee members must live and/or work in Marin County, including unceded Ohlone and Coast Miwok land.
